Iron and Malaria

• Examples of two current research projects are:
  

• The pathogenesis of malaria is complex is still not fully elucidated. Within NIIH, a research project is carried out which focuses on the role of platelets and the endothelium in malaria. Studies on this topic are being performed in The Netherlands and Indonesia.
  

• The complex interaction between iron and malaria is being investigated in another project. A large field study has been carried out in Tanzania and new studies in The Netherlands and Indonesia are underway.
